Situated on the remote and beautiful northern shore of North Ronaldsay, the former Lighthouse Keepers’ Cottages offer visitors a year-round, high-end, self-catering accommodation. The North Ronaldsay Trust led a ten-year refurbishment project following the decommissioning of the cottages and the automation of the Lighthouse by the Northern Lighthouse Board. During the restoration of the cottages, meticulous attention was paid to preserving the historical character of these buildings. The 3-star, self-catering accommodation at the Lighthouse is one of only four such buildings in all of Scotland and the only one that is located on an Island.
The cottages provide visitors with a luxurious, historic base from which North Ronaldsay’s unique wildlife, landscape, and culture can be explored.

“As one of the last active lighthousekeepers in North Ronaldsay, I am happy to see the old cottages put to such good use by the North Ronaldsay Trust. Staying in these cottages, surrounded by the sea and shore, gives the visitor a glimpse into what it was like to be a lightkeeper.”
William Muir
Former NR Lighthouse Keeper
