18-Hole Golf Course Project

History

North Ronaldsay has long offered golfers one of the most picturesque and remote golf courses in all of Scotland. Located beside the long, white-sanded beach of Linklet Bay, the nine holes, including a 624 yard hole, utilised the natural links of the bay to provide golfers with a challenging course that captures the essence of what golfers would have experienced in the early days of this great sport. Accompanying golfers on their rounds will inevitably be some of the islands rare breed of seaweed-eating sheep.

Expansion to 18 holes

The North Ronaldsay Trust plans to expand and redesign the original Linklet Bay course. To this end, a second nine is to be added in the vicinity of the links at Dennis Ness, offering nine holes against the backdrop of Bewan Pier, Bewan Loch, the Old Beacon, and the New Lighthouse. The Trust plans to bring in several low-handicap golfers to aid in the design and layout of the course. It is hoped that the new course will offer golfers the longest hole in all of Orkney. The new back nine will end with a “19 hole” in the Lighthouse Café, where golfers can enjoy a drink and sample local meals.
